July 06, 2012

Last week, Dr. George Fielding attended the 29th annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) in San Diego. Dr. Fielding's lap-band patient, Rex Ryan, head coach of the New York Jets spoke at the meeting about his own experiences with weight loss surgery and announced that his weight loss has now hit the 100 pound mark.

The goal of ASMBS is to advance the art and science of metabolic and bariatric surgery. The Society does so through continued encouragement of its members to improve the care and treatment of people with obesity and related diseases, advance the science and understanding of metabolic and bariatric surgery and facilitate communication between health professional on obesity and related conditions. ASMBS is committed to educating medical professionals and the public about bariatric surgery as an option for the treatment of morbid obesity, as well as the associated risks and benefits. The annual meeting is designed to bring together experts in the field with newcomers, providing a setting to discuss the latest research in surgery and share information and experiences. Our experienced surgeons are often invited to present and serve as leaders at ASMBS events.
