Testimonial: One Patient's Success Story

To: Doctors Ren & Fielding,

At the age of 60 I had lived the majority of my life overweight. One day I took the time to attend an information seminar that the two of you gave at NYU. I was especially impressed with Dr Fielding, who had gone through the surgery himself, and the way you both explained the various procedures. After attending the session, I decided to opt for the Lap-band because of the reduced risk of surgical complications and side effects.

That was in February 2005. When I proceeded with the steps to have the Lap-band operation, your office was very helpful in getting me through the paperwork, insurance issues and preparing me for the surgery, which took place on April 1st, 2005. April Fool’s day 2005 proved not to be foolish at all, but the beginning of this drastic change in my life, which is evolving even as I write this.

Today, one year after the procedure (which included a severe hernia repair), I am down 127 lbs. from 331 lbs. to 204 lbs. In fact because of this loss, when I thought I was feeling a tumor, I was actually feeling my ribs and some scar tissue that twelve months ago was not even identifiable because of the fat. At that time I was also taking five pills a day for type 2 Diabetes and another for my cholesterol, today I take only an aspirin. My cardiologist, Dr David Hodges is happy with the new me that is emerging.

I still have work to do, but I want to thank you for inspiring me to take the step that my doctor suggested, I will keep reporting my progress as it effects all aspects of my life.
