Clinical Trials

NYU Langone Weight Management Program RESEARCH INITIATIVES

The NYU Langone Weight Management Program actively participates in clinical trials that help advance the practice of weight-loss medicine. Our current research initiatives include:

  • A prospective, open-label study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Lap-Band® Adjustable Gastric Band (LAGB®) Operations in the Treatment of Morbidly Obese Adolescents
    Study ID #: 11876
    FDA IDE: G050010

The purpose of this study is to study the safety and efficacy of the laparoscopic band for obese adolescents.
If you/your child is one of obese adolescents with a BMI greater than 40 kg/m2, laparoscopic gastric banding surgery may be an option for obese adolescents (14-17 years old).
    Study Period: 5 years
Study Status: Open for only qualified subjects.

  • Comparison of Obesity Alleles Among Diverse Demographic Patient Populations Undergoing Bariatric Surgery
    Study ID #: 10-00634
The purpose of this study is to identify genetic factors that may influence the success of various weight loss surgeries and determine whether these factors are associated with specific patient populations.
If you had a gastric banding surgery at least two years ago, you may be qualified for this study.
Study Period: one visit (1 time blood draw)
Study Status: Open for new enrollment

  • Genetic Basis of Bariatric Surgery Outcomes
    Study ID #: 10-00634
The purpose of this study is to identify genetic patterns which can predict outcomes following bariatric surgery.
If you are having a gastric banding surgery, you can participate in this study.
Study Period: one visit (1 time blood draw)
Study Status: Open for new enrollment

  • Adolescent Lap-Band Multi-Center Trial - "Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (lap-Band) As a Treatment for Morbid Obesity in Adolescents
    Study ID #: 06-851

    Sponsor: Allergan
The purpose of this study is to study the safety and efficacy of the laparoscopic band for obese adolescents.
    Study Period: 5 years
Study Status: Closed for new enrollment

  • NYU Weight Loss Program Research Registry/ Bariatric Surgery Database- Retrospective bariatric surgery database
    Study ID #: 11809 and 10978
    Study Purpose:

    • To review and study the medical records of many individuals to answer questions about the nature and treatment of diseases such as yours.

    • To identify and recruit patients who are eligible for participation in future research studies.
